On a yacht, water simply has to be there: at the tap, in the shower, in the head. I service watermakers, fresh water, grey and black water systems, bilge pumps and electric toilets – from the end-of-season check, through winter repairs, to recommissioning before the new season.
I am based in Capoterra (Cagliari), and for charter companies, shipyards and owners I travel by car or fly in to any port in the Mediterranean.
Most faults in a yacht’s water system start with the electrics: a float switch, a relay, a pressure switch, a voltage drop or a corroded connector. As a marine electrician I check the whole circuit, from the power supply to the pump and valve, so the fault is fixed on the first visit, without calling two different companies.
Service and measurement of output and salinity, replacement of pre-filters and membranes, flushing and winter pickling, recommissioning after lay-up, repair of high-pressure pumps and controls. Spectra, Schenker, Sea Recovery, Village Marine, Dessalator and others.
Fresh water pumps, accumulator tanks, pressure switches, water heaters, mixers, transom showers. Leak finding, fixing pumps that keep cycling on, draining the system for winter.
Electric and manual toilets, macerators, holding tank pumps, grey and black water tanks, valves and vents. Fixing blockages, backflow and odour problems.
Testing bilge pumps and float switches, high water alarms, pump run counters, tank level sensors and gauges. Upgrades to monitored systems, including integration with the yacht’s panel.
After the season I check all water equipment, pickle the watermaker, drain or protect the system and prepare a list of repairs with a quote. Winter is the time to replace pumps and membranes; in spring I recommission everything and test it before the first charter.
Charter and yacht management companies (whole-fleet checks), shipyards and dealers (installations and handovers), captains and private owners. I do not work on main engines and gearboxes – I focus on onboard systems and equipment.
If the watermaker will stand idle for more than a few days, it needs regular fresh water flushing or pickling. For winter I recommend pickling – it protects the membranes from bacteria and, done properly, lasts several months.
The main sign is rising salinity at correct pressure with clean filters, together with lower output. A well-kept membrane lasts several years, so before replacing it I always check filters, pressure and seals.
Usually a leak in the system, a leaking non-return valve or a flat accumulator tank. I check the whole circuit and remove the cause, so the pump does not wear out or drain the batteries.
Yes. I fly in or drive to ports across the Mediterranean. For trips I charge a minimum of one working day; it is best to group several yachts or jobs into one trip.
Yes – I choose the unit to suit the yacht and its water use, install it, connect power and controls, then commission it and show the crew how to use it.
Planning an end-of-season fleet check or dealing with a fault on board?
Tell me which yacht, where she is and what is happening – I will reply with a proposed date.
The quickest way is WhatsApp or e-mail.
